About the Awards

Welcome to the first ever Australian Child Care Week. We are very proud to be presenting this program throughout Australia with the aim of involving, celebrating and promoting our industry. It is a unique opportunity to recognise the people who have the enormous responsibility of helping to care for and educate our young children.

Australian Child Care Week will be held between 29th August – 2nd September and will feature a variety of activities throughout centres to acknowledge the benefits that early learning centres provide to local communities, families and the children.

As part of Child Care Week, centres will be encouraged to participate in activities that illustrate the seven quality areas of the National Quality Standard. It has a strong emphasis on play-based learning and recognises the importance of communication, language (literacy and numeracy) and the social and emotional development of children. The theme for 2011 is "Bringing out the Quality".

There are many great ideas throughout the2011 Australian Child Care Week Guide. I encourage you to use them to inspire your creativity and your sense of fun in making this week a special one for the children, the families and the community at large. Together, I am sure we will all benefit from a strong Australian Child Care Week.

Join us in celebrating Australian Child Care Week 2011 and being a part of the foundations for a continued brighter future for the children.
